Swiss Olympic champion Steve Guerdat secured a prestigious victory this morning in Wuustwezel, Belgium. The event was a two-phase 1.50m course, part of the Longines World Ranking.
Riding Halo du Rozel, a nine-year-old SF gelding he has been riding for more than two years, Guerdat debunked the competition by crossing the finish line in 24''83. A performance all the more remarkable as this pair was only participating in their second competition at this height.
Twenty out of sixty competing pairs managed a clear round, but none approached the Swiss rider's precision. Kim Emmen, the Dutch rider, completed the top two with Kaiser DMH, finishing more than a second behind the winner. Robin van Thillo and My Jewel's Magic Touch, both winners of the Touquet 3* Grand Prix, also made it onto the podium.
The only French representative of this level, Cyrine Cherif and Triple T Calamando Blue, winner of a 5* Grand Prix in Doha, did not find success and accumulated four penalty points.
